~Patch v0.75~

Hey there! This is the start of the Spring Quarter patch cycle, counting down the final weeks to official release! Quite a lot has happened since Vertical Slice [v0.50]. This patch focuses on new production choices, UI overhauls, new skills, and core loop changes. This patch also features MacOS support!

Knights

<Skill Name> (Mana Cost) {Status}

Knight Knight (Sword Knight)

Knight Knight has been a staple of the Knights game since the beginning. His original purpose was as a tester knight who we could slap skills on and just try things out. However, since then he has gone through his own training arc. And with his new found powers, Knight Knight is now an official knight with his own unique skills!
  • Gallant Cape (P) {New}
    • Knight Knight passively generates one Warp Portal at the start of his turn.
    • When Knight Knight moves, he will regenerate 5% of his health and deal 20% more damage for one turn.
  • Warp Portal (10) {New}
    • Knight Knight targets an empty space creating a Warp Portal.
    • If he targets an existing Warp Portal, he will instead teleport to the space, consuming the portal, and gain an extra bonus action.
    • This skill consumes one bonus action.
  • Counterattack (20) {New}
    • Knight Knight arms himself and targets an ally unit, granting them Countering for the next two turns. If a unit with Countering is attacked, they will reduce the damage taken by 50% and attack the enemy unit. The ally unit will then teleport to the nearest portal.
  • Chronoburst (25) {New}
    • Knight Knight unleashes a powerful beam, dealing 33% of his Attack Damage and afflicting enemies with Vulnerable in the same row as him.
    • If there is a Warp Portal on the field, Knight Knight will teleport to it and recast this skill for free.

Sir Archa (Bow Knight)

Sir Archa is our state of the art AOE ranged knight. While he hasn’t been a popular pick, he has his niche. For the time being, we’ve removed some skills and reworked others. His primary focus is marking targets and taking advantage of marked targets.
  • Hawkeye (P) {Unchanged}
    • Sir Archa's basic attacks apply Mark. Basic attacks that hit Marked targets will consume the Mark and afflict Vulnerable.
    • Additionally, Sir Archa's skills will have bonus effects on Marked targets.
  • Arrow Rain (10) {Unchanged}
    • Sir Archa let’s loose a flurry of arrows, dealing 50% of his Attack Damage in an area. Hitting a Marked target will consume the Mark, and recast this skill at their position.
  • Bouncing Arrow (10) {Unchanged}
    • Sir Archa fires an arrow, dealing 50% of his Attack Damage. This skill may bounce up to 3 times to the nearest target, and applies Marked to the last target. If the last target hit is Marked, consume the Mark and gain 1 main action.
  • Splitting Arrow (20) {New}
    • Sir Archa fires an arrow at a target in the same row, dealing 75% of Attack Damage to nearby enemies above and below, and applying Marked.
  • Piercing Arrow (20) {Removed}
    • This skill was redundant with Knight Knights Chronoburst. We’ve opted to remove this skill in favor of Splitting Arrow in hopes that it will provide better options for the player.

Sir Junn (Magi Knight)

Sir Junn is one of our newer knights in the game. He provides caster-like support, debuffing and afflicting enemies with statuses. In previous versions, his power levels were a bit high. A few number adjustments have been made, but we will continue to monitor his strength.
  • Staff of Despair (P) {Unchanged}
    • On his turn, Sir Junn's first item will consume no bonus actions.
    • Sir Junn’s basic attacks will deal an additional 25% damage for every status afflicted on the target.
  • Junn’s Mix (10) {Nerfed}
    • Sir Junn targets a unit and brews a potion. This skill consumes one bonus action.
      • Self:  Renewing Brew
        • A rejuvenating brew which restores 20 health and 20 mana to a unit.
      • Enemy: Intoxicating Concoction
        • Sir Junn throws a devilish potion at an enemy, afflicting Weakened for 2 turns. If the target is already Weakened, control their next turn. (Does not affect bosses or boss-like units)
      • Ally: Jitter Juice
        • An invigorating brew which grants a unit 20 speed and 20% dodge chance for 1 turn.
  • Ray of Sickness (10) {Unchanged}
    • Sir Junn fires a powerful ray, afflicting an enemy with Acid, Weakened, and Plagued for 2 turns.
  • Spread Disease (10) {Unchanged}
    • Sir Junn targets a unit and copies all their statuses to a nearby unit.

Sir Lyse (Samurai Knight)

Sir Lyse has proven to be a fan favorite due to his flashy attack style and high combo potential. With the state he is at now, his numbers feel powerful, but are balanced by his setup time.
  • Demon Blade (P) {Unchanged}
    • When Sir Lyse attacks an enemy in the same row, he gains 1 stack of Focus.
    • Killing an enemy grants Sir Lyse an extra main action, but prevents him from gaining Focus for the remaining turn.
  • Sidestep (10) {Unchanged}
    • Sir Lyse moves to a target position and gains one stack of Focus. If this is his first action, he will gain an extra main action.
  • Demon’s Fury (25) {Reworked}
    • Targeting self hits multiple opponents based on the number of Focus stacks {Removed}
    • Sir Lyse attacks a target multiple times, dealing 100% of his Attack Damage, for as many stacks of Focus he has. His Focus is then reset to 0.

Sir Gent (Shield Knight)

Sir Gent originally began as a caster tank. He would buff his allies and soak up damage. However, with the introduction of Sir Junn (Magic Knight), his role as a caster has been overlooked. His new kit and rebalanced numbers make him tankier and prevent his allies from being targeted. We’ve approached his tank role as more of a sustain tank, rather than a raw-numbers-defense tank.
  • Iron Maiden (P) {New}
    • Each enemy hit by Sir Gent’s attacks creates an arc of lightning, dealing 25% of the damage dealt to a nearby enemy and healing him for 5% of his Max Health.
  • Rally (20) {New}
    • Sir Gent bangs his shield, moving an ally towards him, applying Guarding, and healing them for 20% of their Max Health. If this ally is already Guarding, extend it by 1 turn and restore 40 mana.
  • Smite (20) {Reworked}
    • Sir Gent calls down a lightning strike, dealing 50% of his Attack Damage in an X. Enemies in the center are afflicted with Vulnerable. Enemies not in the center are instead shoved away.

Overworld

In the past, we planned originally to have two separate regions with distinct enemies and combat themes. However, with the progression of production and overall content generation, it was in our best interest to stop production of a second region. However, with the new found space and room for content, we have decided to merge both the plains region and winter region into one area! With this change we are now able to feature a miniboss and final boss in the first region.

Along with these changes, our overworld now features a linear node system. Our past overworld was convoluted and didn’t lead to a distinct goal. With this new linear node system, the path is clear! However, just because it is now a linear node system, does not mean that the player will lose agency. The path may still split, giving players different paths of risk and rewards.

Node Pathing

Along with the new overworld changes, the first three nodes in the game are now presented as a starter area. Players will also be able to choose their starter knight from a pool of 3. The second node is a town node with a pool of 3 equipment and 3 consumables. In the third node, players will be randomly given 2 more knights.

UI

The User Interface has been reworked in most areas! Look out for more updates in the near future.

Closing Notes

TL;DR Knights are now more balanced and fit a better niche. Overworld has been reworked to fit scoping and production schedules. UI is looking cleaaaannnn. MacOS is supported now. We look forward to shipping Knights in the following months! Look out for the official release in early June. Thanks for reading to the end!
